Cate-Questions - Westminster Shorter Catechism

So it's not the best video. Louisa is squealing periodically and it gets cut off early. But it shows (well almost shows, again, it gets cut off) Rock is up to Question number 18 in the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Or, as he calls it, his "Cate-questions."

Wow. I am seriously impressed. And I know you all are teaching him what they mean as well. So glad to see him being "trained up in the way he should go." Love you guys :)

Love it! I vote to create a cate-question/hymn sing series on the blog because I love both so much.

I went to church with the Fix family about 15 years ago and found your blog from Elizabeth's blog. I just had to comment on your sweet son! What a blessing and encouragement to hear the truths of God out of the mouth of a child!

Also, I have a question. Why did you guys decide to do the shorter catechism, rather than the children's catechism?

Kierstyn - Glad you found us -- I enjoyed reading a bit of your "sanctified" blog!

To answer your question, we chose the WSC over the Childrens catechism because we felt that some of the Childrens catechism questions were simplified in a way that was unclear or unhelpful. Also, by the time he finished learning all of those he'd definitely be old enough to start the WSC and he would probably get confused since they are so similar in some parts. By learning the WSC, he's taking in a LOT that's over his head but he's learning great truth and the language of the reformed tradition and one day it will all make sense to him. At that point, he can make the choice to believe it or not, but at least he will be clear on what we believe.

Plus it's really fun to hear a 2 year old say 'foreordained whatsoever comes to pass' and 'transgression' and all those other big words! :)
