Bottle... hmmm... not so much.

So, the night before the picture above was taken, Fix and I went out on a date while Mommarama watched Rock. We left a bottle of breastmilk in case he woke up and freaked out from being hungry. He didn't wake up. Since the milk was already thawed, we decided to try a bottle the next day when he was hungry. Rock HATED it. So I did half a feeding the usual way and then we tried to get him to take the bottle again. He didn't really like it, but he finally settled into eating from it... Or so I thought. When I tipped the bottle up after a few minutes of 'feeding' it was still just as full as when I started. We tried for a few more minutes but Rock never figured out the whole 'sucking on the bottle to get the milk out of it' thing. Needless to say, we are taking baby steps (pun intended) in the direction of bottle feeding. I guess we won't be planning any baby-free vacations in the near future!

Hi "Mrs. Fix"! Your mom shared the address and I haven't seen Rock yet so I'm visiting. Just wanted to say don't give up on the bottle yet, just let someone else do it. Most babies that are breastfed don't do so well taking a bottle of breast milk from their mothers. They seem to know the boobies are only a few inches away!

And btw, he's a pretty cute little fella!

Hey Rachel!
Loving the blog! I read this post and had to put in my two cents... bravo on the nursing! I had to pump with Isaac b/c I worked part-time when he was a baby. One time I was using a new Advent bottle (isn't that what bottle you're trying?) and he sucked and sucked, but the milk was not going down. Come to find, many minutes and one frustrated baby later, the nipple wasn't letting milk through. I took a needle to make the nipple bigger, and made sure milk dripped out when I turned it upside down. He sucked it right down after the nipple operation. (that sounds really funny). Rock is a darling... and mommyhood looks good on you!

I was going to leave some advice here, but it looks like your friends pretty much have it covered. The only thing I would add is to make sure you warm the bottle (in warm water). Adeline was not crazy about the cold milk idea. Perhaps you already tried this....
